Your title must have an alpha channel with it first. Then, when you import the file into your avid, in your import options, select the Invert Alpha button. Your file will import as a matte, and you should be able to drop it onto the video track above your main video. Then, if you want, you can open the effect editor for your matte and do basic animations with it.

I’m on Media Composer 11.0.6 Mac.

Someone told me it may be becasue I modified a clip. I did have to change a clips time code, because the handles I had given teh clips for the decompose were too long and it went over a timecode break and wouldnt’ capture.

Cool, that seems to work, although some effects seem to not like it, I assume it’s because they don’t lend themselves to titles as well.

Anyway, that was super frustrating, thanks for clearing it up for me.

Try this link for a way around that:

Also, if you’re using the newest Sapphire plug-ins or BCC effects, they should have a button within the effect editor that says Apply to Title Matte, although I’ve found with BCC effects, they don’t always work well or at all when applied to the title matte.

I tried that, but when i use the effects on the titles themselves, as they are on the timeline, without pulling the alpha out and all that, the effect works on the video behind it as well, and not just on the imported titles. Even when I have the BCC effects, and I hit the Apply to Title Matte button, it does something weird where the alpha channel gets effected, there title dissaperas, adn the entire picture goes dark, as if just the half transparent alpha was on the screen.

I believe the sound will be in sync on the tapes I receive. Is there an advantage to editing in 24p as opposed to 30i with a matchback (I’m guessing if there is, it’s accuracy?)

    Thanks for the advice.

I’m sorry, I meant Avid Media Composer. Shouldn’t have written the post before my first cup of coffee today.

Thanks for the advice. I guess there’s a lot of questions I have to ask of production before I get started on this. I’ll keep you posted.
