thanks, david, that’s all it seemed to need!

Thanks, Tom. I actually found it going through A/V Settings, and clicked on Digital Cinema Desktop Preview. I only then found it under Video Playback in the View drop down menu. I appreciate your help!

Hi Mike,
The camera they used was a Panasonic DVX 100B. What do you think? I think regardless I should probably just do a test and see how it works out. But anymore thoughts on the topic would be more than welcomed.
Thanks,

Hi Erin,
Sorry I haven’t responded. I’ve been away for the past month. I never did find a solution, but somebody else did respond to the thread with some more information. I don’t know if you saw the post or not…Let me know if you’ve come across anything helpful!
Regards,

Thanks for your help, Kai and David, that is the solution I will use!

Robert, I apologize for not being more specific in my reply to David’s answer. The interview that was transferred to CD was originally on analogue tape, the interview is from 1981. Do you know how this might change my handling of such media, if at all? On the other hand, your answer (which was informative, thank you) is a perfect lead in to another question I had. Is there a program better suited than Itunes for getting media onto the hard drive from a CD before importing it into Final Cut?
Thanks again,
Matt -
David, thank you, that is very helpful. The audio I’m importing is actually of an interview that was transferred to CD from tape, not music. Would it still be at 44.1 khz, and do the same parameters apply?
Thanks again,
Matt -
Thanks Zane. That will work.

January 14, 2009 at 1:28 pm in reply to: format compression and project sequence settingsThanks, Robert. That was helpful, and I will check out the link you sent, although I’m not sure if it directly addresses my question. Final Cut doesn’t need to render my footage in the Timeline. If it did, then I would better understand the relation between the Format compression as displayed in Item Properties and the Sequence Settings. So I’m still not quite sure how the one relates to the other. Any other ideas?

Thanks Shane. At what point in the process should I use Compressor? Before importing the quicktime files into Final Cut, or can Compressor be used once the project is edited on only those clips that require it? I am new to this and I very much appreciate your help. I actually took over this project from a previous editor and recently saw that there was a difference between the default sequence settings compression, which is DVCPRO HD 720p24, and the compression of the shot material, whose item properties format compression setting is DVCPRO HD 720p60. This does not seem to pose any problems, but, again, is there something that I should be aware of in terms of this divergence?
Thanks again,
Matt
