    Hello,

I seem to be having a recurring issue with archival footage in fcp. I’m using MPEG Streamclip to create QuickTime files, specifying the item properties, in order to import to final cut. However, I’ve noticed a small gap on the left side of the footage between the left edge of the footage and the the left edge of the screen. In other words, even though the footage is formated properly, it doesn’t fill the entire screen, leaving a a black space on the left side of the screen. Might somebody be able to tell me why this is happening and how to correct it?

Thank you for your time and help,
    Matt

Sounds like the origional archive footage did not have the exact same aspect ratio or dimentions as what you are converting it to, or to what your FCP timeline is.

An easy solution would be to scale your footage a little in FCP.

There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.
Don’t let technology get in the way of your creativity!
