  • Hi Shane,

Thank you for your response. I had been considering using Compressor but wasn’t sure how the results would be. If I were to use it, would I set the frame rate to 24 in the video settings in the encoder tab and then in frame control just leave the set duration to 100% selected, or do I select the “so source frames play at 24.00 fps”? I’m going to talk to them anyway to find out why they ask for AIC instead of ProRes.

    Thank you,

    Matt

    Thanks Neil,

In all my various search inputs into Google with mp4 and timecode, that answer did not appear anywhere. Very helpful to know!

I tried unchecking “preserve aspect ratio” at 1920×1080 and that worked. I also realized that coming out of compressor I had to set the pixel aspect to square in the geometry tab. I think I understand this a little better now, and at least I’ll now what to look for if quicktimes are displaying incorrectly. In fact, I’m compressing a 1440×1080 to mp4 right now to 1280×720, and with the pixel aspect set to square i believe that should come out correctly. I did a test and it seemed right. Does that sound like the proper setting to you?
    Thanks for your help!

rafael, thanks for getting back to me. below is an image of the visual settings window from quicktime for an mp4 whose normal size is 1440×1080 but displays at 1224×917 in quicktime pro. In quicktime X it displays correctly. Is there something about the mp4 format that I’m missing?

    thanks,

Thanks Tom. I’m going to double check on the DVCPRO format we’re using. But I’m not sure if you mean that the 1440 format is both a format of DVCPRO HD and anamorphic, or if it is something else. Would you mind clearing that up for me?

    Thank you for your help,

    Dennis,

Re-encoding to 150 min. seems counter-intuitive to me. I’m not doubting what you’re saying, it just seems that encoding to 90 min. would make the file smaller, while 150 min. would create a larger file. Could you let me know why it is not this way, or direct me to a source that explains it?

    Thanks again,
    Matt
