We actually have an editing rig set up that way, with the main viewer running as a full screen picture. The image on the Imac is still set as the original workspace with 2 viewers and so on.

Have you rendered the selected clip after applying the clip? Do you have your RT set as safe or unlimited? I’ve had same random problems when I didn’t one or the other.

Put your background footage (i.e. the picture) on the video 1 track, and the spaceship footage on the video 2 track above the picture. Use the filters key>chromakeyer and key>color smoothing. Adjusting the settings on those should get you started. Good luck and god speed.

I’ve also done the same with creating the ‘sparkles’ in particular or particle world, then used a moving mask. Same principle, I just like using the mask for more control.

  • Instead of using 2 keyframes for the zoom passing the planet shot, try adding another right where it starts to slow down, then adjust the last key frame by bringing it closer to the 2nd key frame. This should do the trick, also using easy in, out and ease to smooth the transition of speed.

If you add some glow and soft focus, along with a couple random lens flares…adjusting for a while, you might achieve the same results.

I had to do the tape to tape editing in college (and didn’t cheat like the previous poster heh.) It was definitely rough and I totally respect the ‘Old-Schoolers’. There’s just one problem I have with a few editors around me, who think since they were around during the late part of linear, that I must bow to them and repeat the chant of thank you god of editing. It’s awfully painstaking at some points. I do, however, thank the linear editors for getting us to where we are now. Couldn’t be here without the invention of the deck.

It would seem easier to make 2 different files, offsetting one from the other. Making sure they line up correctly then playing them simultaneously through whatever source you are using. Pretty tricky stuff. Or, if using a PC as the source, you can dual view (depending on what graphics card you’re using, as with most new models have 2 dvi or vga outputs). Meaning if you made the file as wide as two of these HDTV’s apart, including a few pixels for the “gap time”, it should play correctly. If setup correctly, I think it could work. Other than using a computer as the source, good luck!

  • I’d recommend Invigorator as well. You can design your text or logo in Illustrator and Invigorator automatically makes them 3D. It’s amazing for simple and moderate 3D logo manipulation.
