Hi Guys New to this, looking for some help

I am shooting some video art which is to be displayed on two HD tv’s mounted horizontally one underneath eachother. Between the two screens is a gap of around 6 to 8 inches. The screens are mounted behind two way mirror glass so are not not visable when they are turned off.

The end footage will be underwater HD of fish swimming.

At the moment the HD video displayed on both screens shows the fish swimming from one and then instanlty appearing in screen two.

What we are after is for the fish to swim out dispaear or take the correct amount of time to appear in screen two as if it has swam through the gap or to appear it has swam underneath the gap.

I have now shot using two cameras taking into account the gap so it moves from screen one and takes correct time to appear in screen two, but how can i merge these to make one video in FCP, so the single video can be displayed across both the screens

I’d appreciate if anyone could shed any light on this issue.

My first suggestion is to investigate digital signage.
My second statement is to castigate you for not knowing how you were going to pull this off BEFORE you designed it.
The problem you must overcome is how to play the two HD streams in perfect sync in an unmanned playback situation so they stay in perfect sync or are self-correcting. I know of no computer playback applications other than digital signage proprietary systems that will do this for you. Although I have heard of multiple QT Players being launched on separate monitors, I’m not sure how you’re going to do HD or keep them in sync.

I hope others will offer up a more optimistic and workable solution for you. Give us a couple of days for some other folks to check in.

It would seem easier to make 2 different files, offsetting one from the other. Making sure they line up correctly then playing them simultaneously through whatever source you are using. Pretty tricky stuff. Or, if using a PC as the source, you can dual view (depending on what graphics card you’re using, as with most new models have 2 dvi or vga outputs). Meaning if you made the file as wide as two of these HDTV’s apart, including a few pixels for the “gap time”, it should play correctly. If setup correctly, I think it could work. Other than using a computer as the source, good luck!
