I look at that and say give me a day and a half. Unless you have someone else doing the design. The design and “Look” of it is the part that always eats up my time.

Buuuuuut, this would be totally possible from within AE using Zaxworks or Boris 3D text. I don’t have Zaxworks on my machine, but my boss does, and he does stuff like this all the time. As long as the models aren’t too complex, and the textures are simple you could be in AE with this the whole way. I love C4D, but most motion graphics stuff like this is still easier in AE for me.

OK, now see that right there would defeat the whole purpose of… but I really wanted to… yeah but….

    Ahh well…

I’ll give it a look as soon as I’m done rendering something else. I’ve picked apart some of the other presets and deleted stuff I didn’t need. I’ll post a screen shot of my current Xpresso setup for giggles. its a rat’s nest.

Also, when I’m done with this project (end of the week hopefully) I’d love to make it available for some people to look at and maybe give thoughts as to how to do it better/more efficiently. I’ll probably be doing similar animations, so anyway to learn better ways to do things would be great. I’m an odd duck in that I actually look for constructive criticism from others. I know there are always other/better ways of doing things.

    Thanks!

Having some of the same issues as well. Waiting to hear the “Just click this button, moron…” response. Glad to admit I’m a moron, if its that easy!

  • [randy johnson] “why not have the particles follow a spline?”

    Yeah…. a spline… riiiiiggghhhhttttt.

But that would be just too easy, right?

Damn… You’re right. I’ll give it a try. I’m looking for a tutorial right now.

So, would I be best off to start over using the TP Emitter presets than try to salvage what I have now?

  • I do believe that is what is happening. Some of the particles are bouncing around so much they die off before they make it to the exit.

So, I can increase the life in the PStorm node, but I don’t want the particles flying too far out the end of the tube. I can’t find a “destructor” equivalent in TP. Am I missing it? I would love to be able to just put a plane object out there to define where I want the particles to disappear, like the standard particle “Destructor” object.

    Any ideas?

Yep, that worked! I was failing to understand how (and that I could) assign different groups to the Ppass node.

Working like a charm now. Time to tuck that little gem of TP info into the old brain attic for future use.

    Thanks!

I’ll try that out on monday. I knew it had something to do with groups, but wasn’t sure how to assign them properly and pass the proper data to each group.

Do I need to make another PStorm node as well so I have a different emitter for each system?

Thanks! I’ll post the project again when I get it reconfigured.

    [Jan Sherlink] “flowchart-overlay.”

    THAT’S IT!!!!

Now that I know what it was, I use it all the time for navigating precomps.

    Brilliant!

  • And where do you buy extra PCIe adapter cards? I have a 35, and I love it, but I hate it when I’m on a different machine from where the card is installed!!

    Any ideas?
