  • Thinking particles on x axis?

Right now all my particles are being emitted along the z axis, which I understand is the default. I need to be able to animate the direction that the particles are emitted. I am using PSurfacePosition to make the particles emit from a plane, then I need to rotate the plane and emit particles in the direction I rotate it. (think lawn sprinkler) I have tried using the PVelocityConvert node with the Constant node to feed it vectors and speeds, but the particles lose their dispersion. They all go exactly in the direction I point them, they don’t disperse randomly and organically. I need a way to “soften” the effect the PVelocityConvert node effect.

I’ve tried to incorporate elements from the Follow Spline preset, but there’s so much stuff in there, as soon as I try to reconnect wires to my stuff, everything goes haywire. It seems those presets are only good for a starting point, not for incorporating into a current setup.

    Any ideas?

Far be it from me to take the easy way out 😉 , but have you tried using the provided TP Surface Emitter preset? If it isn’t exactly what you want it should at least give you some good clues.

OK, now see that right there would defeat the whole purpose of… but I really wanted to… yeah but….

    Ahh well…

I’ll give it a look as soon as I’m done rendering something else. I’ve picked apart some of the other presets and deleted stuff I didn’t need. I’ll post a screen shot of my current Xpresso setup for giggles. its a rat’s nest.

Also, when I’m done with this project (end of the week hopefully) I’d love to make it available for some people to look at and maybe give thoughts as to how to do it better/more efficiently. I’ll probably be doing similar animations, so anyway to learn better ways to do things would be great. I’m an odd duck in that I actually look for constructive criticism from others. I know there are always other/better ways of doing things.

    Thanks!
