I see the upcoming Premiere Pro may help here as there is now a button to toggle between editing a sequence into another sequence as a nest or as individual clips

Could I suggest an alternative workflow without actually answering your question…
JKL as you usually do but rather than inserting cuts why not just mark an IN where you would normally place your first cut and mark an OUT where you would place your second cut.
After this you can just use the EXTRACT command which is the ‘ key.
So the keys used would be J K L, I, O and ‘

Further to my post stating that the AC3 stream could just as easily b stereo…
I see this camera can record both 5.1 and stereo from he built in mics. As you probably know your camera setup more than I could possibly do I will assume you have it set for 5.1 recording.
I would be interested in obtaining a short sample clip from this camera if you are able / willing to share.

Hi Rob,
AC3 just means Audio Codec 3 (Dolby Digital)
It could just as equally be formatted as 2.0, 3.1, 2.1. etc
So it could be stereo

Are there keyboard equivalents to allow you to raise or lower a clip’s volume 1db or some set amount?
Yes.
On a selected clip press. control – or control + to lower or raise by 1db

Has any one found a way to stop the playhead from moving when selecting a clip? Or is this a baked in feature?
Seems to be a baked in feature that is different from FCP 7. I haven’t found a way to change the behaviour. -
