Many thanks

June 30, 2011 at 11:17 pmPlease describe step by step what you’re doing. Do you mean in the Event Browser or the Timeline and if the Event Browser list or filmstrip view and when you say Select do you man click on the clip so it has a range around it?

June 30, 2011 at 11:37 pmMy bad. When I select a clip in the timeline the playhead moves over that clip. Just a quirk/annoyance when I’m mucking about most of the time I like to be able to park the playhead. I was hoping buried in here somewhere there was an option to keep it from jumping…I’ve searched in vain to no avail…

June 30, 2011 at 11:51 pmOnly function I’ve noticed is when you click somewhere in the timeline, it will park the playhead there, and then you’re free to move the skimmer elsewhere and view what the skimmer sees in the viewer Then if you move the skimmer out of the timeline window, the viewer pops back to the playhead. You can use the skimmer to easily compare shots in other parts of the timeline this way as you slide the skimmer up and down into the timeline window.

July 1, 2011 at 12:01 amYes you describe one of the neat things about the skimmer.
If the skimmer’s behavior get’s in the way of some particular task one can simply hit the S key to disable it.
I have it on when shuttling and comparing (as you note) are important and I turn it off when I’m moving about from window to window to avoid that ’60’s nightclub slideshow feeling. If where I skim to becomes the point I want to play or jog around, hitting the L key or the arrow key immediately gives me playhead.

July 1, 2011 at 12:11 amActually that was exactly what I was hoping to find, something akin to being able to turn off the skimmer, not a feature I like so was relieved you can simply disable it. I think when I’m closer to refining a project and I have a lengthy timeline I will appreciate it.
Cheers for the help

Seems to be a baked in feature that is different from FCP 7. I haven’t found a way to change the behaviour.Nevin Styre
July 3, 2011 at 8:11 pmyou can click above the clip then drag over it with a selection box to select it, this won’t move the playhead.
