    Fred,

Let’s just say that AJA seem to have recognised the fact that some people require unity gain and currently offer that ability with a modified driver.

The check box in their beta driver may have been included to fix the bug of the os slider being forced to 50% but we will certainly lobby for them to keep it.

I am happy that you are having success with your i/o and that it does what you desire. It doesn’t for us and a few other people it seems.

    Regards, Matt

    Our opinion…

We do not wish the underlying operating system to have any control on audio i/o. We also believe that FCP itself should not have any control on audio input on digital streams. If you have an analog input then fine let the FCP input gain slider tweak for some incorrect gain in the analog path. We use a mix of AJA and Blackmagic cards and prefer the way the Blackmagic does its thing – unity gain.

We certainly did not like the current bug that renders the PDF at the AJA web site inaccurate when using FCP 5 and Tiger. The bug being that the sound preferences slider resets to 50% and does not stay at their 67% to provide unity gain.

You may also be aware that should you use the Kona 2 card for general sound output(youmay use motion, etc and want to hear those applications thought the card)then the volume controls on the keyboard, etc, control the audio gain of the output and require resetting to 67% before am output to tape. Well, this happens with us anyway.

..and our final word on all of that. We are very happy that they have put a check box in the Kona 2 control panel to allow a unity gain on input. We also pray that they can implement a check box for output as well. Give the customer the option of having the operating system control the gain.

    re. the audio loss.

We have never liked the way that you are allowed to control the input gain with a digtal input. We have definitely not liked the way the OS sound preferences also is allowed to control the gain on input and output.
Just our opinion. If the levels are low on our source material we are more than happy to do gain adjustment within FCP.

Anyway, since FCP 5 came out even the KONA2 and FCP integration hasn’t really worked correctly for us. We have had a recent remedy and I can only suggest you contact AJA and talk about some beta drivers which have a check box, ‘ignore audio gain’ in the KONA Control panel.

    Hi,

We capture many long clips on KONA 2 and BLACKMAGIC systems with similar consistent behaviour / problems. FCP completes the capture normally but the actual clips are shorter than that specified in capture. PAL here btw

I believe this problem has been escalated within Apple.

  • HI,

We had a problem were we imported a clip with an animation codec (with alpha) and the viewer would show the alpha but would not work when it was in the timeline.

This clip worked in 4.5 so we compared all the bin columns to see if anything was different.

For our problem, we noticed the FIELD DOMINANCE column was different, so we changed it on the imported clip and voila our transparency in the timeline was back and working.

I am at home right now and can’t remember if we set it to NONE or NOT SET.

Hope this helps you as well.

    Hi,

We recently upgraded our FCP systems to 5.0 (Blackmagic and AJA). They both exhibit the GREEN LINE problem. We are also currently waiting for a fix.

Our Green Line is bottom of frame in PAL and top of frame if system is set to NTSC.

I assume this is the problem you are referring to ?

May 11, 2005 at 10:30 pm in reply to: Linking Clips to one media file

IN case it was not obvious in my post, my main question contained an error. The correction is below.

If you are with me so far my question is this:

When I import this batch list in to Final Cut as the example below,

    10:00:00:00 – 10:01:00:00 reel001 opening titles
    10:30:00:00 – 10:32:00:00 reel001 man walks in to a bar
    10:41:00:00 – 10:42:00:00 reel001 horse smiles at man

Can I link (or whatever is required) to my original clip / media file which was digitised as below

    10:00:00:00 – 11:30:00:00 reel001 programme

Before I pose a few other questions it would be great to know if this can be done “simply”. I have imported an EDL with say 30 clips and then relinked to my ‘huge’ long clip but it was very tedious for me as it kept prompting me for each clip I was trying to link.

Any help appreciated if you can wade through the above.
