Hi VSV,
Our Windows drivers are very stable and maturing all the time – they are certified by Adobe and our HD Pro card is the solution for the OpenHD turnkeys for 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 HD that have been put together by Adobe, HP, Sony and others. I think being certified by Adobe, endorsed by companies such as HP and being the only uncompressed HD and SD solution for Sony Vegas 6 speaks for itself regarding the maturity of our drivers and products.
To develop/plug in to our products we use Microsoft DirectShow which is a very open and easy to program interface, similar to QuickTime development on the MAC. This is a much better way to develop – even if we change our core driver, it will not affect our developers because the interface to us is DirectShow. This is why we chose to go this way, easier for us and more importanlty gives our developers a stable platform to code to.
In the case with Cineform and AJA, this has been developed via AJA’s private API and hence much of the Cineform Prospect HD has been specifically coded for the AJA API. It is not a simple DirectShow plugin/filter.
[vsv] “We have done some developement for the Black Magic cards, we even showed a prototype of Aspect HD using a Black Magic at NAB. However the drivers for AJA are more mature at the moment, we find more reliable performance with AJA so that is currently the recommended HDSDI solution for Prospect HD. In time we may add Black Magic support to PHD — no promises. David Newman
CTO, CineForm Inc. “We have pretty much done everything that has been required to plug into Cineform Aspect and Prospect – it is really in Cineform’s court now to make this happen. So to answer your direct question, Cineform Prospect and Aspect support will not be in the 5.0 release.
I hope the above cleared some things up.
Cheers,
Regards,
Matt

May 15, 2005 at 10:48 am in reply to: Blackmagic Design DeckLink for Macintosh v5.0 software for FCP 5Paul,
We had our weekly conference call with Apple on Thursday and they informed us that FCP 5 had shipped to the stores the previous day and that we could speak about the “shipping” status now – Which is why we posted the new installer.

May 10, 2005 at 12:47 pm in reply to: Building a workstation – question about pci-x for decklink hdHi Brant,
[Brant Mills] “I’m planning my next workstation and I want to use a decklink hd pro. Am I going to need a dual pci xpress x16 system to have both a slot for the decklink HD card
DeckLink HD cards are PCIX 100/133. PCIE is supported via our new Multibridge products – Multibridge Extreme and Multibridge Studio which are scheduled to ship this summer.
[Brant Mills] “does the decklink card act as a traditional video card in addition to the capture device? “
You will need a PCIE x 16 graphics card – Our products are not a replacment for graphics cards.
[Brant Mills] “Most of the motherboards I’m seeing that do boast dual pci-xpress slots have one x16 and one x1 slot. Can the Decklink support full HD in the x1 slot or does it require the x16 slot? I know it only does SD in traditional pci slots. “
For HD support via the PCIE Multibridges you will need to run it in a x4 or higher PCIE slot. SD will work with a x1 PCIE slot
[Brant Mills] “How do you guys have your systems configured? Are there any issues with these cards performance differing between p4, xeon, athlon, opteron… are there any issues with hyperthreading or dual processors? What are you seeing as far as functionality and cross compatibility is concerned? “
It is far too early for us to recommend configurations, as the products get closer to shipping, we will publish recommended specs as at this stage any recommendations would not be accurate.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Matt
