Same problems here with shutting down and timecode, also hdv footage is not scaling to standard def on output unless you place transparent video on the track above.

Blackmagic projects seem to use a lot more system resources than premier projects. ie cpu use is 3 to 4 times higher. Is this normal?

While I would agree that source timecode and duration should be visible somewhere when working on the timeline. The timecode effect applied to each clip and selecting media as source is working fine for me(tested with DV footage)

what about looping back on a still picture or logo

Try 2 same model dvd players plus one remote
Author a black still menu with a transparent button linked to the main program.
Hit enter on remote to play
Probably a good idea to have audio on both dvds
If you require loop back its probably better to author that in rather than
relying on the dvd players
