Is there a mask around the image you’re trying to corner pin?

That might be causing the issue. Corner pin operates assuming you’re working with image dimensions that are the same size as the comp. You can get around this by precomping the layer and fitting the layer to the size of the comp.

See here and search for “Applying Corner Pin for Layers with different dimensions”

It’s much easier to do in Mocha, as the mask keyframes are kept separate from the tracked keyframes.

You mean you can’t use the layers from the timeline in After Effects as videos?

Don’t try importing them externally from disk, use the “Insert Layer” option in the plugin interface.

If you’re using the plugin, just import the screen insert via the “Insert Layer” option.

See “Rendering Insert Layers” under the After Effects plugin section:

If you’re using the insert module, just create a mask that matches the curve of the phone and link it to the tracking data.
You can then either use it as your foreground mask in the Insert module or use the resulting mask as a matte back in After Effects.

June 27, 2019 at 6:35 am in reply to: need to fix the sky

    It depends on the motion:

    1. Is any part of the sky have texture detail in the clouds or is it too overexposed?
    2. Is there any middle-ground scenery such as mountains?
    3. Are the flowers moving a lot or are they stationary?

You can do sky replacment a number of ways (keying, rotoscoping etc) but for a dolly, you’re going to need a trackable background to make sure the sky solidly follows the movement of the camera.

If you need the rotation on the head as opposed to the hand, one method you could try is:
    1. Track the head AND hand
    2. Export the tracking data from the hand track to the null
    3. Delete the rotation data
    4. Export the head tracking data and apply it to another null
    5. Copy the rotation keyframes from the head null to the hand null.

I have no idea if this will actually work, as i’m only theorising here. 😉

  • What you could do is track the various planes of the face then either link the control points together using the attach tool, or simply overlap them and use the resulting combined matte.

You can do this either by:
    a) Exporting the shape data as AE splines then pre-comping them as a track matte on a solid
    b) Use “View Matte” or “Apply matte” as a combined rendered matte for the distortion.

But yes, for applying the texture you should probably user multiple tracked inserts and blend them together.
A single texture across multiple planes would be a lot more difficult without resorting to a mesh.

  • It’s not clear, are you using Mocha AE or Mocha Pro for these operations?
Mocha Pro has a built-in warp mesh for inserting if that helps.

Hey Garrett, that is definitely old information. ☺

Mocha Pro has both a plugin version and standalone type since version 5.
