The Kona won’t help you in this case, you’d have to do the scaling in FCP. From what you’ve said it sounds like you want to deliver a 16:9 letterboxed version and a full frame (cropped sides) version. One question – have you been editing the project in a 16:9 anamorphic sequence or in a letterboxed sequence? It makes a difference in the best way to produce your full frame version.

Hmmm weird. Try selecting the AE clip in the timeline and going to Edit > Remove Attributes menu. Check the Basic Motion and Distort boxes (if you can) and hit OK. Does that fix it?

I’m puzzled – Where are you getting this 1024×576 frame size from if your sequence is set to 720×576 anamorphic?

This is very good advice about mindset and “not trying to turn it into an Avid”. I’ll be training two experienced Avid editors on FCP very shortly and I have a question about keyboard shortcuts – should I encourage them to embrace FCP’s native shortcuts or customise it to near Avid’s layout? Unfortunately the editors will be regularly switching between Avid and FCP in the future rather than going with FCP exclusively.

September 22, 2005 at 7:35 am in reply to: Copy Color Corection Settings to the 3rd clip??Unfortunately there isn’t a better way. However it would be neat if it worked so if a destination filter was selected when you hit Paste that it forced an overwrite from the source filter rather than adding it to the list. One for a feature request perhaps –

I’m afraid such a device doesn’t exist. Is this for monitoring? All FCP capture cards will happily take a DVCPRO50 timeline and output it if that’s what you need.

There are some audio quirks when transferring clips between 4.5 and 5. Try exporting an XML file (in XMLv1 format) from FCP5 and then importing that into FCP4.5 which might fix it.

“4. A static 2 or 4 screen box display during slip and slide. I hate having to hold mouse and slide.”
4 way trim view definitely won’t appear – Avid have a patent on it. Discreet Edit got away with using the idea but I can’t see Apple doing the same 😉

You should treat any letterboxed footage as 4:3 because that’s essentially what it is. This way the aspect ratios will work out so you can just zoom the clip up to fill the 16:9 frame.
