    Thank you both so much for your help. I have disabled thumbnail previews, and hope to see how it improves things over the next couple of days. I have a feeling that it will help tremendously.

    Scripting is not one of my strengths, as I only know enough JavaScript to get me by in After Effects, but I am definitely open to learning something new, especially if will help my workflow.

    Just out of curiosity, Thie, what do you mean by Bridge being “for files only”?

    Copying speed is definitely an issue, but even listing all of the files in a particular directory can be difficult at times. For instance, if Cinema 4D renders all of its frames (because it can’t render different passes to different folders) to a single directory, it can have, say, 1000 frames in it. Since Finder insists on drawing thumbnails for everything, it takes a while to chug through and show all of the files in a given folder.

    I’ll definitely take a look at Path Finder, as it seems to be an interesting option, but my main concern is speed.

    I realize that people who know command line might see it being extremely elementary for me to be whining about copying files in Terminal, but I work in a primarily creative environment in which such tools bring with them certain risks and very slow adoption. It’s just not how we typically work.

    Hi Adam,

    Thanks for the tip, and I’ll be sure to start experimenting with the phong tags in a moment. I wanted to post some screengrabs of the issue, though, to provide more clarity about my issue. They are attached below and were done with the following settings:

    Anti-Aliasing: Best
    Filter: Blend
    Softness: 65%
    Threshold: 10%
    Min Level: 4×4
    Max Level: 4×4
    Use Object Properties: Deselected
    Consider Multi-Passes: Deselected
    MIP Scale: 50%
    Small Fragments: Hybrid

    As you can see from the photos, the issue is really manifesting itself around the screen and around the phone itself. It should be noted that I am not rendering an alpha channel, as I know rendering with a straight alpha sometimes appears to look ugly around the edges when viewed in some programs that do not display an alpha channel in-viewer.

    Again, thank you for all of your help. I’ve never had this problem before, and I hate wasting so much time trying to refine something that isn’t usually an issue.

    Just for the sake of clarity, I am running Cinema R12 on OSX 10.6 installed on an 8-core Mac Pro.

    I can’t think of any tutorials regarding scenes this large, but you may want to start in Illustrator and draw out your basic roads, sidewalks, etc. Judging from the simple reference you provided, I would image that you could simply start extruding curves up on “y” to get your basic layout, then fill in the details from there. Just a thought, but I’m sure someone else with more architectural experience can point you in the right direction.
