Pulled the extra 2 gigs of memory same exact thing 16 seconds then the big freeze.

Different tape… different tape machine, all drives on firewire off.

Reporting dropped frames, but I assume thats because of the freeze.

Doesn’t matter if I put the deck in “local” and try to capture without DV control (uncontrolled device).

    It’s got me vexed.

Doing that as I write this…I mean not at the same but…

I’ve got a G5 Dual 2.0 that is real strange about memory. Only likes REAL $800 Apple memory… even tho the 2 gig I put in has the same Samsung serial number, I think there’s something APPLE does to RAM… like get it blessed by the Pope or something…

Nope. Same QT same FCP. Added some additional RAM (went from 2gig to 4gig)

It’s this 16 second thing that’s weird. And it doesn’t matter what drive I use as scratch disc.

I trashed preferences, but still 16 seconds and freeze no matter where I am in the tape. If I pause the tape, capture will keep going and eventually start capturing again. It is like it captures for 16 seconds/freezes for 16 seconds/starts capture again/ ad nauseum.

It will do a complete hour tape just in 16 motion/freeze segements. This is weird.

Even plugged in a new (diffent dv deck) and it is exactly the same… 16 seconds then freeze frame for 16 seconds then motion….

Got an email from Tinderbox. Seems my mac was adding a .txt extension to the ending of the license and keeping it from working.

    Fixed now.

    Andrew,

Thanks for the ALT trick. It worked as long as the tracking dot I was ‘leaving’ didn’t move off screen before I ALT moved the cursor to the next tracking point.

I didn’t have any hiccups and it translated great!

    Sincerely,

    Christian,

I had very similar problems. Have you tried an “Archive and Install” of the system? You didn’t state what you are running, Tiger or Panther. A clean install of the operating system fixed a bunch of problems I was having. Is it only FCP that’s crashing?

Also, I discovered that my G5 demanded that I use Apple memory. I tried other third party RAM, but the third party RAM and the RAM that came in my G5 didn’t play well together!

    The clean install helped alot.

I’ve got Tiger. Do you think an install of it would fix things? If so rather than do an upgrade should I do an archive and install?

    Thanks for the reply!

    Jason,

You know sometimes, ya (me) feel like an idiot! I’ll bet I checked those connections a dozen times…so when I read your response to my post, I thought, “let’s check once more…”.

Gads I’m stupid. Sure enough I had the “TO DECK” connections on the outputs and FROM DECK on the inputs.

Thank you for taking the time to respond! Thank god it wasn’t my wife saying, “check the connections.” ! I would have never lived that one down.

Thanks again for stating the obvious.

(Put the “Oh Eff Eff” switch in the “Oh Ehn” position)

    Mark
