Yes, very good points. Motion blur in particular is a killer.

Motion leverages the GPU on your graphics card so that is the key factor in performance. Upgrading the card can help quite a lot, but depending on the project, you may never be able to play back in real time without first rendering (Command-R). Lowering resolution and/or quality and soloing layers can help.

This works fine for me on 5.0.1 and now on 5.0.2. It takes longer than you’d think it should for sure, but it works – for me, anyway.

Make sure it’s a 3D group, select it, and in the Inspector, open Rotation and change the Y value. Or do it in the Canvas with the Adjust 3D Transform tool

You aren’t limited at all – you can zoom the camera right through the text an it will look crisp – you just have to scale it up first. Not sure what you mean by “curtain range”.

Mike, you are jumping into the deep end of the pool. Yes, one way would to put the text in a separate group. Object > New Group.

February 1, 2012 at 2:00 pm in reply to: Issues with Shift Drag in Apple Motion 5

Start moving vertically and add the Shift key after you start the move. If you still have problems, trash your preferences.

    1) Quit Motion.
    2) Navigate to User/Library/Preferences.
    3) Locate com.apple.motion.plist and delete it (for Motion 3 or 4)
    or, for Motion 5, delete
    com.apple.motionapp.LSSharedFileList.plist
    and
    com.apple.motionapp.plist

January 29, 2012 at 3:23 pm in reply to: Motion vs After effects -Feature Comparison

All of the effects, titles, transitions, and generators in FCP X are Motion projects. You can modify them and create your own. Motion is actually the development environment for making effects for Final Cut Pro. It’s true that you can’t roundtrip, and I miss that feature as well, but you certainly can bring Motion projects into FCP X, by publishing them as titles, transitions, effects, or generators.
