Another idea would be to try to open the file in Motion 5.—

Sounds like a bug. Try changing the text layout from Type to Paragraph and see if that works.

No, I think you’ll need to make two clones – a blurred one on the bottom, a cropped one on the top. You won’t use the source at all – put it below everything else.

Just rename Motion 5 to something else, and FCP will launch Motion 4 for round-tripping.
