A mask can’t be open, it has to be closed, by definition. A shape doesn’t have to be closed and the method you describe will work.

Agreed, would love to see this. Zaxwerks products are great – been using 3D flag in AE yesterday, very nice.

Only thing you can do is change the frame rate – select the clip and press shift-F to bring up the Media tab of the Inspector, that’s where you do it.
Better, though, to do it in FCP and export a movie for Motion.
