You can change the interpolation by right-clicking the keyframes in the Canvas or you can do it in the Keyframe Editor.
To change the project duration, select the project layer in the Layers List, go to the Inspector and change the Duration field.

Not necessarily just wanted my test to match what you are doing. You need to publish the Position and Scale parameters in the Properties Inspector for the effect placeholder. You can then scale or move your video itself.

Publish the Position and Scale parameters for the Placeholder layer, which is what becomes your video.

Twixtor would probably have the same issues. When you have moving objects overlapping each other, it’s impossible for the software to distinguish them from each other, leading to the warping you see. Optical flow is really not the best approach for this kind of slow motion. Better to rent a camera capable of higher frame rates.

Why don’t you just mask the clone? I’m not exactly sure what you are trying to achieve. As to learning more about Motion, that’s basically what I do for a living – you may want to check out rippletraining.com.

Have you tried the Photo Recall effect that is built into FCP X and does exactly that? If it isn’t precisely what you want, perhaps you could simply modify it to suit your needs.
