Did you use the Anchor Point tool to move the anchor point to the edge of the book cover? The anchor point is the point around which a layer scales and rotates, so that certainly should work.

  • You can’t add an image to and image well for a mask from the File Browser – it has to already be in your project. First add it to the Layers tab, then drag from the Layers tab into the well.

  • I’m sure there’s a way to accomplish your goal, but you need to work around the rasterization limitation. Hard to tell you what to do without seeing the project.

  • First, make sure your groups are 3D groups.

Then, make sure any layers or groups are not being rasterized, as indicated by a square around the layer icon – rasterizing is caused by certain effects and forces layer order.

Stephen’s stuff is good. These templates were also all created with Motion:

You use Motion to create motion graphics – pretty much anything that can be done with other tools can be done with Motion – you might want to check out some work on motionographer.com for inspiration (although some of that work incorporates true 3D and tracking as well…)

You can only change whether the wriggle occurs at the points, the tangents, or both – and of course the speed, noisiness, etc. of the wriggle. Not the angle. You would need to use keyframes for that.

It will always look worse in FCP’s Canvas – you can not judge quality there at all – you are seeing only one field, plus the Canvas is being scaled. You also may need to adjust your render settings in FCP. Or are you looking at a broadcast monitor?

Well that’s exactly how it should work. You said your render quality is set to “High” – there is no “high”, but if you have it set to “Best” you can try “Normal”.

Also, what is the scale of your Canvas – it shows up at the top right. Option-Z sets it to 100%, which is where is should be to evaluated the image.

What is your resolution set to? Your render quality?

Did you scale the image way, way up, and toggle the Fixed Resolution checkbox on and off to see if it’s making a difference?
