I usually do the same – start out with a gap, pin music to first frame in the time line and start be connecting video clips. since at this stage I’m shuffling clips around a lot, I leve them connected, but as things start to settle in i’ll overwrite them to the gap clip in the time line, lock in music edits by making all music into a compound clip, amd proceed to fine tune.

In the case of the latest edit I made the connected clips a secondary and did more advanced trimming there before eventually overwriting to the primary.

What is the defined frame size of your project? Is the frame size scaled down and is the scale down reduction an integer? Photo stills often have native frame sizes that are not even multiples of video frame sizes – so you could have a photo still that is 4000 px X 3000 px – just picking numbers out of the air. There is no way to reduce that frame size to 1920×1080 by scaling with a whole number factor which results in some interpololation.

Can you do a quick test setting a project to the exact frame dimensions of your stills and see if that makes a difference?

That question came up for me as well. I was not able to find an export option in send to x for different versions of the XML file – I think 10.4.4 uses either FCPXML version 1.7 or 1.8 .

I have 10.4.4 and she has 10.4.3 which I would not expect to make much of a difference.

Also keep in mind that even if you had a 24 frame progressive (well 23.98 ) setting on the camera there was no such thing as 24 frame video recording so pull down would be applied to bump the frame rate up to 29.97 and there will be interlaced frames in those pulldown frames. So yes there would still be interlaced artifacts in the pulldown frames.

Definitely send the request I think its time for some sorting options with keywords. In the court of cutting my present project it would have been so much easier if I was able to arrange keywords in the order that made sense for the edit. Its a small thing but would really be nice to have some sorting options.

So nearly everytime I post on the Cow about my computer misbehaving, it corrects its bad behavior.

    1) I closed X and re opened my library> no change

    2) I closed X and re started my computer , opened the library > no change

    3) I posted on The Cow

    4) re opened library checked to amke sure i was in the right workspace & Voila its all working again. GO figure.

    Something new in 10.4.4 :

Just installed the update and all was going well UNTIL I was suddenly no longer able to play clips in the browser! None of the keyboard commands to play work in th browser, while the project timeline functions normally. Any one else seeing this?
My hardware is a 2013 iMac running Mojave and ten dot four dot four.

I’m not sure “I” worked it out, maybe X did with some nudging..

I quit the project on computer& Raid #2 and opened original project on Raid #1. That project appeared as expected with both original and proxy media linked up .

THen back to Raid #2 with the copied library and external media folder. With that Library open I grab one clip in the Browser and relink link the clip to the original media folder and the relink works. I grab 6 more clips and relink to original media and that works. So I grab the rest of the clips, numbering about 180 and relink with success.

Switched to proxy view and basically did the same thing with success. And so now the Library on Raid 2 with the external media works as expected.

I’m not sure the actions I took made any sense in terms of solving the problem, but maybe it gave X a nudge in the right direction and it healed itself.

Sometimes just the act of writing a post on the Cow solves the problem …. I think I’ve got it solved.
