Ive been looking at the Dell Ultrasharp 2407 too, but what strikes me is AFAIK all these computer monitors do not show inerlaced footage as interlaced, but only show progressive… so if you happen to have your field order messed up, it will be hard or impossible to notice, till you watch it on an interlaced monitor.

SO

Wouldnt an LCD TV be the best option for low cost monitoring?

If so, do you have any suggestions for a 24 inch monitor that shows interlaced footage as interlaced?

yep, and i was dragging the Start and End sliders the oppoiste way round thinking thats what you meant.

maybe its a PAL/NTSC thing?
I will try an NTSC project later.

the duration is anywhere between 1 second and 2 seconds, there are not that many paramters to change and it works using the default parameters when page turning regular video clips, but not when using anything with an alpha channel.

Interstingly it works at the tail of a clip but not at the head. If I alt-drag the very same effect to the head of the same clip, it does not work, but works fine at the tail.

Hi Walter and Andy,

Are you guys trying this with text on a transparent background over a second video track?

The page turn works fine with two pieces of video, but when I put the basic FCP text “SAMPLE TEXT” on a V2 above some other video clip on V1, and want to add a transition to page this text on and over the V1 track below, it just cuts on… no paramter changes in the Viewer make any difference.

If I park the CTI over the mid point in the transition and move the “direction”, the full “SAMPLE TEXT” is there all the time… no effect at all.

Steve, I have had terrible problems since moving to Leopard – and once you do it, its impossible to go back with the same projects.

Both AJA and Apple have replicated the Leopard-FCP-Motion Templates problem, but have not found the bug yet as it only happens on some systems, mine being one.

I have to use Motion as a 3rd party application, render 32 bit MOV’s and import them to FCP manually… very time consuming.

If you dont have that specific problem, i would say Leopard is fine, if you do, go back to Tiger before converting your projects to the new format.

Nathan, you should be aware that there are issues with FCP/Motion Templates in FCP/Leopard

There was no problem in Tiger, but on some systems there is. My laptop FCP is very stable, on my desktop I crash within 30 seconds every single time I play a Motion Template… which I do all the time…

In general, I would say FCP is very stable, Motion crashes once or twice a day if you use it a lot.

my feeling is to use write once and to see te bluray disks as your “tapes” for archiving. Rewritable disks are only useful if you a/ dont fill a disk each time and you want to add little bits at a time or b/ dont want to permanently keep the media.

both of these are not really valid because
a/ 25gb is not much when it comes to video media, so its more a case of having a few disks per project than of uisng the same disk for many projects
b/ you wouldnt need the bluray disks if you were going to throw away the media anyway.

so get the write once.

the only advantage i see in the RW disks is if your burn fails for sme reason and you can try again.

if you use your right eye.
i use, and only feel comfortable using my left eye, much faster at composing quickly and “seeing” things with.
i guess the ex1 eyepiece placement is really for right eyed people use lefties need to do optical chopstix
