Ive just tested two of the effects which did not work on my MacPro/Aja and they work fine, with alpha in the transfer mode during the course of the transition!

So perhaps Aja has the limitation? I wonder. Please could you try it? Use Quicktime Push and FCP’s push equivalent too… both work on Macbook and not on macpro.

Yes, that might work, i will try that next time, and it probably isnt what one would call a BUG but it should definitely not need to be sub-timelined to work, its just a software limitation which some other programmes do not suffer.

IMO a professional video app like FCP should not have such a basic limitation, so I guess its time for a feature enhancement request.

With some of the effects you can work around this limitation by putting the two clips in the transition on different tracks and applying the same effect to the “ends” of both clips, ie doing the transition to track filler. This works with the push effect, I have not tried others.

It reminds me of the old days when hardware buffers could only take one alpha channel or something, like the matrox digisuite, you could not put one transition on top of another track with a transition.

the softness is odd though, im not used to seeing something so incredibly sharp, and do a tiny camera movement, and suddenly it is not so sharp anymore… ive never seen that using tape and it s quite disconcerting to me.

i will do more tests sometime soon, but i shot some interview footage last night, looked gorgeous by and large, but occasionally it looked soft just for a fraction of a second, and afterwards I was wondering if the autofocus was on by mistake, but it was not AFAIK… so will do some conscious tests this weekend. Im fearing that 90% of the image has to be static or the image will become obviously softer (please god im wrong!)

Yep, importing the folder which contains the BPAV folder works! great, which means one does not need a Mac to copy BPAV folders while on location… good news for modern man!

by some chance, i had been testing the splitting of files and still had this split bit of the original shot, enough to see the blur I mean…

Job, I dont know how you are doing that, as far as I know, it is not possible to import that way. I have just tried it again and the BPAV folder is greyed out in the XDCAM Transfer “Add” pop up…
Are you 100% sure you actually imported from the BPAV folder and not the memory stick, had you Ejected the stick?

If you are really copying off the hard drive and not the stick, I would love to know from Sony why some people can do this while others cant. It makes a BIG difference because if one can import from a BPAV folder then one could use ANY computer to copy this stuff over using USB and convert to mov later.

HI guys, good news and bad
i had deleted the clip off the card
good news
change .mov to .mp4 and i managed to play it with windows media player CLASSIC (it must be classic, ie 6.4)
im not sure whether i co-incidentally have some plugin which was pre installed, but classic plays the clip, VLC on windows does not.
the colour was beefed up in the shot i did, but it looks considerably more oversaturated on my pc, or perhaps the codec or whatever on windows.
if that does not work for you, i will shoot something else this weekend.
