You can edit with the proxies but it will take considerable time to make them using the Sony Transfer software.

Mine is very similar except that I use the AJA HD10AVA with my Sony M10U deck into my Kona 3, capturing into ProRes 422 or DVCPRO HD 1080i29.97.

AJA HD10AVA
That converter box will do everything you need to properly convert your analog HD video to a proper digital HD signal. It comes with video and audio inputs. You only addition would have to be XLR female to RCA male cables.
I’ve gone thru everything you are going thru and this is the best and easiest option for doing exactly what you need.

Your post and advice were very inspiring to me, as well. I have had people sit down with me and show a thing or two that I otherwise would have never known…
I’m one of those people who are red-green color blind. But my station manager at a local PBS station where I went to school sat down with me and showed me how to read scopes properly that I could use the correct colors. This was in the days of 3/4″ ( just after 1″ tape) and not so good broadcast monitors. After all this was a PBS station… No budgets.

Well, I understand your overwhelmed… This business can get this way. If you need some advice or would like to see a small operation with lots of broadcast work on their plate. In your case…
It would be much better to export a full res Quicktime and let Compressor do the work for you. Otherwise, you’ll have to change your settings in the Quicktime Conversion window yourself, which could get rather tedious.

You can do it either way…
But, the Sony Transfer software is the only way to do a data transfer. Log and capture is the old way of doing it that I prefer for most projects. Short projects like commercials and short stand-ups, I’ll use the Sony software for that.
Sony will release a new version of the software sometime at the end of September.
