I can vouch for Gary on this… The quality is sooo much better. You have twice the actual resolution with most cameras and you can achieve some excellent slo-mo capabilities.
As Gary does, we shoot completely in progressive (in our case, it’s 30p) and deliver in interlaced 1080i29.97. Looks so awesome!

The only reason to shoot progressive if to achieve a film like look. It takes the harshness away from interlaced video.
I prefer the progressive look, but others may not. For corporate video, most prefer the interlaced look. The progressive look will soften areas of people’s faces that could probably use the softening.

Did they import the proxy files and now you need the actual files? Is this footage XDCAM or is it XDCAM HD?

You’ve found the FCP 6 bug!
Most of us are dealing with this one. Sometimes it happens when you duplicate a sequence. Sometimes it can happen when you change you sequence starting timecode.
The best thing to do is to delete the old render files and re-render. Once you do this and it happens again, you can restore your project.

Personally, I can’t vouch for the D-1 but I can with the V-1. I was having similar problems before my Sony rep pointed out that there was a update to the firmware to the machine last year. Since that time, I’v had not one issue with the machine and Sony’s software.

Uh huh…. Right…..
I just think it is silly to shoot yourself in the foot because you disagree with a standard. Michael Bay has to be commended for his ethics. BUT, this industry thrives on distribution and if that means distributing on HD-DVD, then it needs to happen.

But, I’m pretty sure that Michael Bay is taking that stance because of the porn industry’s position on using HD-DVD. Well…. If that’s the case, maybe he shouldn’t edit his movie on an Avid. I’m pretty sure the porn industry is using these, too.

Yeah… I know…
But why should I have to purchase a BluRay burner for my computer for about $699 and then have to spend at least another $488 for a cheap BluRay player.
Its kinda like the old days of DVD when we only had players that hooked up to your tv and you had to use your computer to burn them. Later, the set top burners finally came out.
But this is so cut and dry on the formats…

You should have bought all of the memory from the same resource. Same memory, same manufacturer, same sizes. It all matters to FCP for some reason.
I, too, had these same issues until ProMax cleared up the matter with me and settled me on 8 gig of Kensington memory.

The problem you are seeing is two fold.
One, you memory is of an odd size. You should have at least 8 gig with the new OctoCore systems to use FCP efficiently.
Second, HDV is extremely processor intensive and since your memory is at an odd size for FCP, you’ll have to render.
