Does anyone know how an upload to hi rez is done on final cut pro with the XDCAM? can you batch capture as you usually would or is that not possible with the XDCAM software?

i.e. can you treat the xdcam as a regular deck though log and capture??

FCP only works with the hi res video. It does not work with the proxy footage at all.
You can browse the proxies with the Sony software, but you edit with the hi res clips.

    That mostly true…

You can edit with the proxies but it will take considerable time to make them using the Sony Transfer software.

So to answer the original question… Yes, to both.

Yeah. I had a sit down with Sony recently, and the rep cringed when the subject came up. It can be made to work, but I would not try it on anything but a short spot.

    Very true!

Some people just insist on edit proxies first.

wasn’t that the entire point of XDCam?

To get going editing right after recording, before you made
it back to the tv station for the news?

perhaps i didn’t explain myself correctly.

I am working with low rez footage that someone else digitized and want to make my low rez project – hi rez when it is final,

is that possible through the batch capture method though the log and capture function of final cut pro?

so to clarify am not talking about working with proxies at all…

    thank you

    Yes…

As long as the footage reel names are correct and labeled properly, you shouldn’t have any issues uprezzing the way you want.

how do i do that? in the audio settings for the capture preset and the device control preset there is no option to select the XDCAM camera as a deck or the media as XDCAM… only Sony HDV firewire, which i tried but it is not recognizing the camera…

is there a way to batch capture through the XDCAM sofware???

    thank you

no there is not I believe.

If you do it through firewire or ethernet you have to install this software and “copy” the files over.

You will need to digitize over SDI if you want to batch capture it for online.
