[Dan Monro] “AS I said, we can get it to go in at the right frame, it just doesn’t happen the 1st time every time. “
To be perfectly honest… This has happened with me many, many times in the past and various versions of FCP to boot.

To further explain what Rafael is saying….
You can go into your User Preferences – Render Control and set the render codec to Apple ProRes 422 (HDV, XDCAM EX/HD/HD422), and this will render anything you need rendering into ProRes 422.

Has your tape been pre-striped with timecode and black? I know this sounds funny and kinda archaic but NLE’s are funny little creatures that sometimes have a mind of their own.
Are you doing assemble edits or insert edits? And how are you printing to video? Thru the menus or by dragging your sequence in the Edit to Tape window. Sometimes, opening the Edit to Tape first and then dragging you sequence into the desired operation will work properly.

[Matt Devino] “On a side note reference quicktimes have always worked for me when I need to compress something using Qmaster, saves a lot of time compared to exporting a full size quicktime especially when it’s a full show. “
Normally, you’re right but sometimes things happen to software that make us pull our hair out and have to do more steps than necessary to get the job done.
Sometimes upgrade and updates are a step in the wrong direction… You know, fix one, break two…

October 14, 2009 at 1:54 pm in reply to: Edit to Tape is 1 frame early – Only sometimes![Duke Bishop] “I have MetaSAN also installed, but I have all of the media for this project on an Internal RAID, so that shouldn’t affect it. “
Question here….
You say that you are writing back to HDCAM SR 444 DL RGB and I have to assume that your sequence is 24p, right? Because your program is starting at 59:59:23 instead of one hour, right?
Ok…. so here’s my question. What format are you editing? Uncompressed? And your using an internal RAID for this? Why not using the SAN? What kind of internal RAID are you using? Software or hardware? If its software, I’d tend to think this may be your issue.
Also… Have you checked with Sony to see if this is a known issue with you HDCAM deck? There may be a software update for this.

This is a known bug that Apple stated when FCS3 was released. Read the docs listed on your install disks and this will confirm your issue.
Qmaster has always been somewhat of a thorn in our sides since day one. But with tweaking, it does work.
As for what you are doing… The only way to compress using Qmaster is to export your sequence as a full Quicktime, not reference video, and import into Compressor.
OR
Do as you are doing except do not use Qmaster, just set Compressor to use your computer only. A 45 min program should take you about 20 min or so to compress and write to DVD.
Let this be a lesson… Sometimes marketing and software design do not go hand-in-hand when it comes to actual working features. This is ALWAYS true for ANY software that you have seen or bought. Am I right?

I’ve been using AJA products for years now, and standards conversion is one thing the Kona series can’t do. You can do anything within that standard, but not between standards.

[J. Tad Newberry] “they actually just said they would “prefer” the Pro Res version, but didn’t sound adamant.”
That is until you reach that one engineer that is having a bad day and your file reaches him in XDCAM HD, then you get that phone call from the engineer saying you sent the wrong formated file but he will take time from his day to convert it to the proper format.
Yes…. I’ve run into this one before.

October 13, 2009 at 1:06 pm in reply to: 1440×1080 DVCPRO 50i to 1920×1080 10bit uncompressed 29.97?[eric pautsch] “This client has thrown another problem my way. He has a DVCPRO 1440×1080 50i FCP Sequence that needs to be be converted to 1920×1080 10bit Uncompressed 29.97 to be encoded for Blu Ray.”
Is this going to HDCAM? I ask because it seems silly to cross-convert just to go to BluRay. The video will not look any better.
The Kona card can do lots of really nice conversions BUT going from PAL to NTSC is not one of them. You can’t take a 25i or 50p signal and convert it to 29.97 without going thru a standards converter. This would be something that a high end post house would have.
I would not suggest that you do this thru software conversion, unless you test it out and your client accepts it. But I would imagine that Compressor could do this but you may have some field flickering issues. Export a small portion of your program and try it. See what happens.

Why would this kill your timecode? I assume these clips are one continuous clip, right?
Just set you sequence timecode to that of the first clip and drop the rest of this clips in order. Check your timecode for accuracy. Then export.
