This is correct. Most apps on a Mac will only use up to a maximum of 2560 MB, including Final Cut Pro. There is nothing wrong with you system. More RAM will allow you to run more programs at the same time.

There is no fix for this as of yet, or is there a need to fix this. Hopefully when Apple releases a fully 64-bit OS, this may be addressed but for now, it works just fine.

Are you compressing these clips to ProRes 422, then placing them in an XDCAM HD timeline?
You should be using a ProRes 422 timeline for these compressed clips.

Well, just run these clips thru again. Remember, we are using computers and computers will “brain fart” from time to time. If you ran a few hundred clips thru and only a select few came up corrupted, I’d say that wasn’t bad at all.
I’ve done compressions that gave me headaches from the start.
One more thing, XDCAM HD is 1440×1080 and ProRes 422 is 1920×1080. Check to make sure that the ProRes 422 clips are converted correctly. Besides that, what version of FCP are you using?

Explain the steps you are taking to do this.
Are you importing the clips one at a time and selecting the ProRes 422 preset?
You could use Media Manager to transcode your media for you.
If you have a capture card, just recapture everything as ProRes 422, but be careful that your video does stay in the 1440×1080 ratio. ProRes 422 in the 1440×0180 ratio is very slow to work with.

Let me ask you this, Bob…
With regards to the audio popping issue.
Do you have the VANC option checked or unchecked and what version of the AJA driver do you have?
I had this issue with the 7.0 driver but since upgrading to the 7.0.1 driver, the popping has seemed to have gone away with the VANC checked.
BUT…. Now, I’m seeing other issues that I did not have like my previews are no longer realtime and when your timeline has a area where there is no video but has audio and then it has more clips after that, the video will slow down then speed up as to catch up with the CTI.
Puzzling…

Well…
Not meaning to throw in a wrench, but I’m having the same problems with FCP 7.0.1 and my Mac Pro Octo core system (built Nov 2007). The same holds true for the other Mac Pro we have but its a 2006 Quad core system (built Sept 2006).
Try this one…. Add Motion projects to your timelines and watch what happens. First put on Motion project on track 2, render. Now, place another Motion project and place it on top of the first (add to track three). Now what happens? Our system come to an absolute crawl and render times are outrageously long.

This is very normal, John. Would you want to look at a video that is squished horizontally?
After Effects is a compositing program and you would want to composite full frame because that will be the final product when aired, right?
Programs these days are smart. They now know when you are working with DVCProHD, HDV, XDCAM HD or EX, and so forth. Its nice to use a program that you don’t have to change a bunch of settings around so that you can see your video properly.

You know how it is today… clients are easy to come by but getting money from them is like squeezing wine from a turnip.
By the way, the ATTO dual channel card is about $1200 on B&H’s website, compared to Apple’s card which is $600.
Imagine that, Apple has something cheaper than someone else…

“This is true. You cannot name subclips. They will come in at 1,2,3,4,5 and so forth. You’ll have to rename these later. This is on my wishlist, too.
