I guess I’ve been lucky so far. This time I downloaded the entire combo update to 10.4.8, booted to another drive and installed on my manin drive. So far, so good…
I guess you have to expect a little pain when working with a brand new platform and OS. Oh well….

Really? Where did you order your card from? I had my system built by ProMax and they’ve had them for sometime now.
That may be my issue with OS 10.4.8. That seems to be my only difference with everyone so far. I would suggest that you use Carbon Copy to to clone your boot drive first before installing it.

I’m happy that it worked for you, Walter. But you know as well as I do, any new system can be completely different from box to box. And this one is so new that we are the ones working out the kinks in them.
Do you have an ATI X1900 installed in yours, Walter?

Well, I can chime in and tell you that its awesome once you figure out the 2 gig RAM limit and DO NOT upgrade to OS 10.4.8 (it will make your system very unstable).
What video card are you getting with your system? I had the ATI X1900 installed. AWESOME card! Motion and Shake just flys with this card!
Let me give one word of warning. Use Carbon Copy to make a backup of your system drive before adding any updates for now until Apple can get a stable OS on the Mac Pro. I have two drives just for this! Let this be a tip… Two backup drives make troubleshooting much easier. I’m running off of my first back drive that has OS 10.4.7 installed with FCS upgraded to 5.1.2 and everything is stable!

True, Jeff. BUT let me shed some more light on this.
What you mention is all true of digital prosumer formats, when relating to broadcast digital formats such as IMX, P2, D2 and so on, they have a setup of 7.5 IRE. This even applies to DVCAM when the menu is adjusted for this. So, DV is a prosumer format desgined by the Japenese (who use zero setup) to be used my any Joe. It originally wasn’t designed to be broadcast in the US, just for comsumers to shoot in a digital format that was very cost effective.
SOOOOO…. to recap. Firewire was intended originally for DV and was designed that way. When you digitize using firewire on a DV or DVCAM machine, it wants the video to be of zero setup.

Well, Nick, that’s because DVCAM is still DV and DV video has a zero setup, not the standard 7.5 IRE. I’m not familiar with that machine but check to see if you have a Black Stretch setting in a menu. If so, turn it on and that will bring your black levels to standards.
Don’t ask my why or whoe decided that DV was zero setup… Sounds stupid to me BUT that’s the standard for DV.

UPDATE: After scratching my head, puzzled with the problem… I finally decided to use the Apple Hardware Test to check my hardware. It turns out that I have two pairs of bad memory. Somewhere on those memory bars there are some bad chips, therefore causing my dropped frames and audio sync troubles.
Go figure…. the easiest things are always the last thing we do.

Well…. what issues are you having with DVDSP?
Personally, I don’t like iDVD because it doesn’t do a very polished job and has ways of making things difficult for the user. If you are using standard templates that one thing, but customizing can be difficult at best with iDVD.
Have checked to see that your project is in 16:9? Have you checked to see if your quicktime file is really 16:9? Sounds to me that it is not. Where did you create this quicktime file? FCP?

[Peter Wiggins] “ATTO survey?”
Seems that everybody is missing my point. I have talked with tech support at ATTO and Facilis (TerraBlock) and both are stumped and confused by my issue with the Mac Pro. And of course, ATTO did pont out that the final driver will be available in November BUT that doesn’t help me now.
My original question was to find out what ATTO cards people are using in their Mac Pros. Hopefully, I could find a common thread IF people who are having problems are using the same card as I.
