We have been using two of them for the past three months. Excellent product! I got two of these to replace the HD10A box that we had.
I do have one issue that maybe an issue with the box. When my cameraman does a fast whip pan or some sort of quick movement, the HD10AVA seems to loose sync and picture until the video stablizes.

We’ve been using XDCAM for the past year and have now, upgraded to XDCAM HD. The workflow is very different but very adaptable.
To answer your question… Well, the Sony Transfer software is a good software package that will suffice for most any project.
BUT, if you have to mix formats like DVCProHD and XDCAM HD, it is better to use Log and Capture and capture directly thru your HD-SDI connection into the DVCProHD codec.
If all of your footage is XDCAM HD, use the Sony transfer software and edit natively. It is faster and easier to use.

Doesn’t seem to work either…. No matter what, if I change to DVCProHD at any time, I HAVE to render all of my XDCAM HD stuff from that point on… Its frustrating and time consuming.
And answer me this…. why do I have to render a clip with 3-way Color Corrector applied to it?

Yes… But with any software upgrade, there will be headaches of some sort every single time. That’s the nature of writing software. It’s up to users like us to point out the problems so that the next upgrade will be better. Yes… it seems like we are all complaining but that is the only way for software engineers to listen to us.

No… You shouldn’t worry about upgrading. BUT I wouldn’t try this in the middle of a large project or only have a small amount of time between projects.
There is one thing you need to keep in mind as with any software upgrade… “Are the advantages of me upgrading my software more than the disadvantages of possible bugs inside?” For most of us, the upgrade consisted of additional support for XDCAM and P2. That means alot of us were interested in upgrading vs the amount of bugs that may be available. It’s a roll of the dice, so to speak.

I installed it the day I posted this on the COW and I have had absolutely no problems at all. Actually, I have seen faster access with this driver vs. the old driver.
AND I can fianlly use all of my RAM!
The Mac Pro is COMPLETE!

There is a simple answer to this….
NO, you cannot render from AE to XDCAM HD, nor, can you capture any other type of footage to XDCAM HD inside of FCP.
I’m sure that this is a Quicktime issue that hasn’t been answered yet. You can render to HDV but not to XDCAM HD. Funny, since XDCAM HD is a flavor of HDV. XDCAM HD 25 mb/s is really an HDV signal written to disk. The other transfer rates are varible bit rate material and that is the reason Quicktime hs such a difficult time with rendering to it. Keep in mind, that when you render in AE, you are essentially rendering in Quicktime as a Quicktime file.

This seems to be the question of the year! Well, the answer for us has been… what is the majority of footage for the project? Its it all XDCAM HD? Or is it mixed with HDV?
If it is all XDCAM HD, I’ll use the Sony Transfer software to import all of my clips and then edit on an XDCAM HD sequence.
If it is mixed footage, it depends on how much mixed footage there is. If it’s about 50-50, I’ll capture everything DVCPro HD and edit DVCPro HD.
Since XDCAM HD is a flavor of HDV, you can’t capture to it thru FCP using your capture card.
