Personally, I don’t know for sure about the performance BUT I have heard tales of people using G4 Powerbooks to edit HDV.

You could also try the Sony LM-2010. Its LCD monitor that’s cheap and good for what you are doing.

Well, Peter, everytime is happens, I submit a feedback form and hopefully everyone else is doing the same. As for this issue, its been happening ever since upgrading to version 5.1.2. But we use the XDCM HD system and this update was necessary to us.

I have seen this one many times myself.
The only solution I have used was to restart the computer and try it again. Most of the time it works, other times, I have to create a new clip and capture that clip instead.
Have you seen the changing timecodes, yet? Sometimes when I redigitize a clip, the timecode gets shortened by some various length. This happens alot too.

Great option… but Mac Pros are PCI-E. So if you do purchase a Kona LH, you’ll want to wait until you get your Mac Pro so that you can purchase the Kona LHe.
I’d say… stick with your Kona2 with the IOLA for now until you upgrade. There is no options on the Kona LH that will benefit you compared to the Kona 2, other than its an all-in-one card. As a matter of fact, the Kona 2 can do more than the Kona LH. You have up and down-conversions with the Kona 2.
Let me ask… what kind of work do you mainly do? The reason I ask is if you do mostly HD now, you might want to consider the Kona 3 since it has cross-conversion. That is very important is you do mainly HD.

As for my own personal experience with XDCAM HD, always use the Easy Setup that matches your footage.
Its easier and better to work with XDCAM HD than HDV, but keep in mind, even though XDCAM HD 25 mb/s is similar to HDV and uses the same codec concepts, its still different. XDCAM HD and HDV are two different formats that share the same conceptual components.
Which btirate are you using? Are you using the Sony Transfer software?

Yeah… There’s many systems out there now. We are using the TerraBlock system and its awesome. Ciprico makes one. CalDigit is another.

Any of these systems are great, but, somehting you might want to look into… Check to see if any can resize on the fly. The TerraBlock system does not, and trying to figure out how much drive space you’re going to need is difficult at times.
Let me also say that these systems are still pricey BUT not as much as an XSAN. They are easier to use and more user friendly, but, these are for the heavy user with a large workload.

Great idea, BUT, it wouldn’t work. The formatting of the discs are different. I’ve tried it and the machine will immediately give you an error message.
