    Hey gang…

I’m doing some research here about an issue that I am dealing with. I have a Mac Pro Dual 3.0 with 7 gig of RAM. I’m using XDCAM HD with HDV video, so, sometimes I work in XDCAM HD codec and sometimes I work in DVCProHD codec. Some projects are XDCAM HD only and some have a mixture of HDV.

Here’s the issue. If I have a project that I started in XDCAM HD and completed the project… and I change projects and work DVCProHD and complete that project. And then for some reason the client didn’t like something in a commercial that I did in the XDCAM HD codec project and I open that project again to make the changes and I forget to change my Easy Setup to XDCAMHD, so I’m now working in DVCProHD and rendered material to DVCProHD in my XDCAM HD project. Well, now, I notice that I am in the wrong codec and change it back to XDCAM HD and blow out my render files. Now, all of the material has to be rendered, even the XDCAM HD footage that was imported using the Sony Transfer software.

I know this must sound really confusing but I don’t know any other way yo explain it. And here’s where it really gets sticky…

If I start a project in XDCAM HD, import all of my footage using the Sony Tranfer Software, edit the project and then export back to disc, all is well. BUT if I change to DVCProHD codec before I close my project for whatever reason. I, now, have to render everything AGAIN and from that point on.

This is a HUGE bug in my workflow.

Make sure “PLayback Scopes live” is off in your sequence (from the RT menu) when you are editing XDCAM HD.

That one screwed me up for awhile at least…

Doesn’t seem to work either…. No matter what, if I change to DVCProHD at any time, I HAVE to render all of my XDCAM HD stuff from that point on… Its frustrating and time consuming.

And answer me this…. why do I have to render a clip with 3-way Color Corrector applied to it?
