Are you ingesting with the Firewire connection and using the XDCAM codec? Or are you ingesting with HD-SDI, and transcoding to some other codec? What’s the best workflow?

This seems to be the question of the year! Well, the answer for us has been… what is the majority of footage for the project? Its it all XDCAM HD? Or is it mixed with HDV?

If it is all XDCAM HD, I’ll use the Sony Transfer software to import all of my clips and then edit on an XDCAM HD sequence.

If it is mixed footage, it depends on how much mixed footage there is. If it’s about 50-50, I’ll capture everything DVCPro HD and edit DVCPro HD.

Since XDCAM HD is a flavor of HDV, you can’t capture to it thru FCP using your capture card.
