If you’re working in HDV, definitely read this article. We’ve been using one of these for a 1080i series being shot in HDV for about 5 months now. It’s awesome piece of equipment to get your HDV to SDI.

I’ve been looking at this. I have a Sony hvr-15mu. Will I have machine control and TC via firewire in FCP 5.1.2? How does it compare to the Convergent Design HD-connect LE?

    Any insights are greatly appreciated.

    Hey Bob,

Nice review, I’ve been looking at these, should work well with my Beta deck and Kona LH, I suppose it’s pretty easy to swap it around no?

AJA’s hardware combo does not have the rather lengthy delay associated with the Convergent Design.

The LH series cards will transcode the HDV. You don’t need the box. You’d need it though for an SDI only card like the Kona 3.

    Merry Christmas Chris.

    Nice article!

AJA makes a huge line of these mini converters. Never heard anything but praise for them either.

    Hey Jerry,

Merry Christams to you too! Thanks for the tip, I didn’t know I could do that with HDV and my card.

    walter,

Do you find the HD10AVA superior to the A/D conversion of a kona card? Which will better preserve the integrity of the orignal footage?

    Thanks,

    equal not superior.
the converter is for using when there is a need to convert and embed analog audio and video content
for delivery over longer distances or when there is not analog input available for your nle.
