Well, I can tell you from experience that the ATI X800 card is awesome. I have it in my G5 system and Motion runs pretty good with it.

You could run into problems with that…
I’m not sure about the Octocore system, but that would be an issue with the Quadcore systems. Memory should be at least 8 gig on an Octocore. And…. I would have to predict that mixing 2 gig bars with 512 mag bars could casue you trouble.

I feel the same way as you. The only reason I upgraded was the ability to mix formats on a timeline. ProRes422 is just a bonus.
For eveyone with an older system, AJA saw a need. That was the reason why they came out with the AJA IO HD box. Yeah, its a little on the pricey side. BUT its cheaper than upgrading your system, isn’t it?

Thank you, Chris! There’s been alot of people slamming Apple because their older systems did handle FCS2 very well. Apple has to look toward the future and can’t look at making software that works on all older systems.
FCS2 will run on any G5 system, even some of the later G4s according to Apple’s website so I don’t get all of the complaining.
The idea that Apple is trying to convey is that everyone who wants the latest and greatest needs to purchase all of it. I knew last summer that FCS2 was going to be something big and take the latest computer to run it effecienly, so I bought one then. The idea here is to spread out your purchases and keep up to date as best as possible.

I agree with Walter fully. Motion is almost completely dependent on your video card. Look at Apple’s website for the complete specs and recommendations of what is needed to run Motion.

Well… that does present an issue.
You could use Media Manager to create a new project and convert all of your media to DVCProHD. But, this may take some time.

This may be impossible…. BUT after you trash your preferences and find out that the issue still exsists.
Try recapturing your media as DVCProHD, if you have a capture card. And if you need to dump back to HDV, just create an HDV sequence and drop your DVCProHD sequence into it and render.
If that doesn’t work… I would have to suspect that Quicktime may be your problem. What version of Quicktime are you using? When I was using FCP 5.1.4 and Quicktime 7.1.6, all of my issues seemed to go away.

I have to agree just a little. It would be nice to be given the option to select this or not, maybe using the preferences or a keystroke.
It does have real purpose, just not everybody wants to use that workflow.
