I have encountered serious issues with FCP 5.1.4 and HDV. FCP is unable to locate timecode correctly while capturing, has issues with deck control, and HDV exports are out of sync. After lots of research, troubleshooting, and testing I have cconcluded that the issue is with the 5.1.4 upgrade. When using FFCP 5.1, there are no issues, but upon upgrading the issues re-emerge. Is anyone else having issues with HDV and FCP 5.1.4? Thanks

We edit HDV routinely on FCP 5.1.4 without any the problems you are describing. You may try the usual trash preferences routine and see if that fixes anything.

If not, a clean reinstall of the software may be what the doctor ordered.

This may be impossible…. BUT after you trash your preferences and find out that the issue still exsists.

Try recapturing your media as DVCProHD, if you have a capture card. And if you need to dump back to HDV, just create an HDV sequence and drop your DVCProHD sequence into it and render.

If that doesn’t work… I would have to suspect that Quicktime may be your problem. What version of Quicktime are you using? When I was using FCP 5.1.4 and Quicktime 7.1.6, all of my issues seemed to go away.

I have trashed my preferences and reinstalled FCP. That is how I discovered the issue was with 5.1.4. My install disk is for 5.1 , and things work fine. Once I download and install the update, I have issues. Without the presence of a capture card, how do I convert DVCProHD? I am running the latest version of Quicktiime as well. Thanks for all the help, I’m still open to any/all suggestions.

Well… that does present an issue.

You could use Media Manager to create a new project and convert all of your media to DVCProHD. But, this may take some time.
