All you have to do is to alter your Easy Setup in the Audio/Video Settings. Change your audio to firewire and select firewire as your machine control.

Really?

The only reason I say that is…. I have a couple of Sony M10U decks and we captured thru the AJA box that converted component video to HD-SDI (no audio), and then the audio was captured thru the firewire along with machine control. I never had a sync issue.

Maybe the Canon camera ca do this… Maybe its a Sony thing only… Give a shot and see what happens.

It doesn’t.

Sub-clips are just that… sub-clips of master clips. FCP can only point to master clips when referring to Quicktime files and sub-clips point to master clips. That’s it.

That sounds like a field issue. Somewhere the wrong fields are being chosen when exporting to AVIs.

Tell us more about your video clips. What are the original clips in FCP? What codec and screen size?

The issue usually occurs because SD video is 720×486 lower field. AVIs are traditionally, if large size, being 640×480 upper field. This can be a real problem when exporting.

Which version of Quicktime do you have?

Timecode support was added to Quicktime 7.1 (I think…). If you have this version or later, look at the timer in the lower left corner. Click on it. You will now notice that is says, Standard, Timecode: Drop Frame or Non-Drop Frame, and Frame Number. Just select Timecode and you’ll see timecode again.

I just tried it and it works great for me.

I ran into the same thing recently. The only solution I found was to dump all my captured media and re-capture. Kinda sucks but that was the only way it would work for me.

Just keep sending feedback to Apple and “bug” the crap out of them.

Ok… we’re getting closer….

we know that you have DVCAM, and XDCAM (is that DV, IMX30, IMX40 or IMX50), and what about the HVX200 – are they DVCPro, DVCPro50, or DVCProHD 720p.

We need more specifics.

But I can tell you that you cannot mix formats using FCP 5.1.4. Once you set your sequence, and you place footage on the timeline, footage that doesn’t match that setting will need to be rendered.

Only until you upgrade to FCP6, will you be allowed to mix formats on the timeline and play in somewhat realtime. But eventually, you still need to render all of this.

The other question that comes to mind is…. what kind of firewire drive do you have? fw400 or fw800? What else is hooked up to your firewire? a deck, AJA IO or IO HD?
