August 20, 2007 at 4:30 pmNot via firewire. You can only capture as ProRes 422 (RS-422 is deck control) if you have FCP 6 and a capture card…OH, and an intel mac. The only capture card that has a hardware ProRes encoder is the AJA I/O HD.

August 20, 2007 at 4:46 pmAFAIK the Canon H1 has an SDI output. With that one you can capture via the Blackmagic card directly to ProRes 422 on an Intel Mac.

No…one or the other. Not both.
[hdfilmmaker] “how do you keep audio and video sync?”
If you capture via firewire, audio is there and in sync. If you capture via HD SDI, then you need to connect the AUDIO OUTS of the camera (XLR) to the audio INS on the capture card…basic connections.

No.

If that card can convert to ProRes on the fly and you have either a G5 Quad or a Mac Pro Intel machine, then yes, you can convert the signal to ProRes.

August 20, 2007 at 5:56 pmReally?
The only reason I say that is…. I have a couple of Sony M10U decks and we captured thru the AJA box that converted component video to HD-SDI (no audio), and then the audio was captured thru the firewire along with machine control. I never had a sync issue.
Maybe the Canon camera ca do this… Maybe its a Sony thing only… Give a shot and see what happens.

REALLY? Well blow me down. I had no idea. I have always only seen in the setups ONE OPTION for capturing…either Firewire or capture card.
Learn something new…
