I’ve got a HUGE problem here. Finished up an enormous project in FCP X this Fall. Everything went pretty smoothly. But I opened up the project today for tweaks, and I can’t reconnect 95% of the media. Modify Event References doesn’t work.

I didn’t do anything! It’s an external hard drive. The files are still there. What do I do????? There’s hundreds of hours of editing here in a project my client needs sooner than later…. ugh.

    Hey Lawrence,

Thanks for responding. For me, this seems to copy ALL the effects. Lemme go back in and double-check, but I’m pretty sure it copies everything….

    Regards.

I cannot get any of the above to work.

How silly is it to leave out copying of a single effect??

Well, that’s interesting. After posting this, I dragged the pertinent clip from the browser to “Replace” what was there (meaning that I would lose what I did to it effects, etc.) But then I clicked Undo after that, and lo and behold, the clip reconnected.

    It works… but you’d think there’s a better way.

    Sorry, wrong number!

But since you asked… I’m looking for an alternative to FCP now that Apple has abandoned ship. So, there’s your connection. (How’s that for a bad excuse?)

    Been playing with the stabilizers.

Mercalli has got to be the best. It is the fastest and the most stable of them all with a very simple interface.

After Effects Warp Stabilizer… well, I can’t wait all day for it to render. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but a 10 second clip takes several minutes to spit out. In fact, I gave up.

Forget the name of another one… uh… Essentials something… and it was not as good as Mercalli.

FCP X has a built-in stabilizer, and for some footage, it actually works well. What is probably best about FCP X is that it will analyze your footage as you ingest it. So you can go for a coffee while it looks at your footage. When it comes time to edit, you simply click on the Stabilizer and adjust it to taste without any further rendering to view it real-time. It’s an awesome feature. However, Stabilizer in FCP X tends to over-react by doing quick zooms in and out. Shucks. It will be a while, if ever, that Mercalli will make one for FCP X according to an email I received from one of their reps.

    Hey Paul,

How did you get the transitions to work in the first place??

I was afraid you were going to say that. Maybe it’s time to leap over to Premiere for good….

    Hi Shane,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, been reading about the FCP fiasco (FCP “X” – cough). Disappointing, to say the least.

I like Premiere. Fast workflow without that pesky rendering need.

So you know why, however, the footage is darker in Premiere?

  • I think it’s SONY XDCAM EX Code….
