  • Copying single effects to other clips ?

Posted by Manuel Wenger on June 23, 2011 at 9:13 pm

Played arround with some footage shot on Alexa and i start to like X.
I won´t use it commercially until I´m able to get it to talk to DaVinci in whatever form, but i think this is just a matter of time.

One thing i didn´t find yet is how i can copy a single transofrmation.

We shot Anamorphic with 1,33 lenses and i did a simple change in the y-Axis Transformation to desqueeze the image. I can cmd-c alt-cmd-v copy the whole effect tree, but i jsut want to copy the single transformation. with ctrl-v i can open the videoanimation for a clip, and i thought i can drag and drop the desired effect to the next clip, but that doesnt work.

    thanks
    Manuel

According to the manual it copies the whole lot and you can’t choose unlike the way it used to be.

Thank you Simon, and pardon my ignorance, but by manual do you mean the HELP in the upper menu bar? or is there an actual manual we can download somewhere?
    Thanks for your help!
    Mario.

[Mario Gongora] “is there an actual manual we can download somewhere?”

    Go here:

    https://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.0/

then click on the little printer icon in the top right hand corner, select “book”, then from your print menu, select save as PDF (bottom right hand corner of the print dialogue).

No need to physically print it unless you’ve got a thing against the rainforest!

Correct- copy, paste attributes is a menu item and it pastes everything- including effects, transform, etc.

It also pastes audio effects along with the video ones. Had to “Break Apart Audio” and copy/paste to get only the video changes. Another byproduct of the trackless paradigm.

Ok, I figured this one out:

1 Click on the little symbol on the upper left of a clip.

    2. Open Video Animation.

    3. Use the little blue checkboxs and turn off the effects you don’t want to copy

    4. Option-Apple-C

    5. Select the clip you want to paste to and Option-Apple-P. It pastes only the effects that are turned on.

There may be a better way, but that just worked. I only was testing the video effects, so don’t know if the audio effects copy as well. Hopefully there is a better way to do this that’s fewer steps

I get the feeling the most rushed feature of this release may be the manual and help files. There seem to be a lot of undocumented features.

    Best,
    John

    John,

Tried the method you listed above and I can’t seem to copy and paste the attributes for the video..and I now seem to be able to crash ‘on-demand’ FCP X…

I’ll go and play some more, methinks. Any help, please?

    Lawrence
