    Hi Laura,
I’ve had my EC-3 for a few years and had several problems. The first 2 were cable failures. I tried to use an aftermarket 100′-0″ and the ends were not to spec. If you have a cable from Pana and it has a (unusable) BNC on the end, most likely it has failed because of useage or 1 or more of your pins has failed. When you send in the unit for service, send in the cable.
    good luck

July 12, 2006 at 3:31 pm in reply to: HDX-900 – What Does Is the True Cost?

    Hey Nick,
I agree with all the responses from your post. Tony hit the nail on the head. From my exsperience accessory purchasing was my wake up call. When I purchased my first Varicam, I spent just as much dressing it up as i did for the camera body. I was suprised to hear that you were confused about what you get when buying a camera? You get a camera body, that’s basically it… I’ve also has success in matching up a Varicam with the SDX-900 passing through the AJ-150p VTR and up-converting to HD. I’ve heard a lot of hipe about the HDX-900 but nothing officially from a “user”.

I agree with using the HD primes. We had a few issues with the cheap connectors they used on the Pro35 adapt. a few years back. Blew the connection on the power supply on cam. Cost us a few days of production time.
If you decide to go that route, white shade all your lenses and remember to change the settings each time you change out the lens.

    hey Alex,
I hope your not getting this for the upteenth time.
I just joined creative cow to respond to your ad. again, i hope i’m not to late.
I saw your posting about varicam. My name is mark. i have owned a varicam for the past 3years. I now have added my second camera package, for multi-cam shoots etc.
I was curious to see if you have hired a Tech.(D.I.T) for your History channel shoot.
If not I would be happy to discuss details and if we may be able to help you out.
I’m also not sure if you are “locked in” with renting your package.
I think i can save you $$$ if we were to work out an owner/tech. type of situation. i know the varicam inside-out and sideways. i have stored well over 20 looks.
I have an excellent package along w/ every style of monitor you could ever require or desire.
I live & work out of the DC- MD area and have worked on multiple projects for the HDTV style networks.
Check out details on my site. and let me know.
    If not good luck.
    Best
    mark
