Did you by chance drag the file from Microsoft Outlook to the timeline? Outlook will temporarily save an attachment to a directory like that and then remove it when you quit Outlook. If this was a bad guess, then where is the file at the time you place it on the Vegas timeline?

You must have checked the box not to prompt. I see the setting in the Internal settings tab that you can access by pression the SHIFT key while choosing Options from the Tools menu. I used record for the search filter and circled the entry in the screenshot. Change the setting from TRUE to FALSE.

Sony Device Explorer stitches my Panasonic HDC-TM900 AVCHD video 4GB chucks together when I have a recording that is longer than about 20min in my case (1080p60). For example, I get a single 15GB mts file rather than 3 smaller files that I get when LightRoom imports from the same camcorder. The only thing you need to find out is if the Sony device explorer supports that camera, it does not work for my GoPro Hero 3+.

It looks like the panel where the drives and folders would be displayed to navigate is collapsed (hidden from view). To the left where you see the Name column, can you hover your mouse over that vertical line and see if the mouse cursor changes to the two arrows pointing opposite ways and drag that line (frame boundary) to the right to expose the navigational panel? It should look similar to my screenshot.

What happens if you click the button that looks like two arrows pointing down (chevron) next to the empty path dialog (long empty rectangle)? Do you get a choice of drives? I suspect one of your drives is not responding quickly and it is not displaying anything until it gets a response from all the drives in your system. Is there an external drive you were using or I wonder if it was related to that combo BluRay device you were asking questions about. There is also a chance it is trying to bring back the last drive/path you used with that explorer dialog and it is having trouble finding it (i.e. a removable drive). Maybe one of these hints will get you a little closer to the solution.

  • You don’t really mention it in this post, but did you set the project settings within DVDA to Blu-ray. Sounds like it is still at the default of dvd instead. DVDA does not detect from your rendered video you upload to it what type of disc format you would like to create. In DVDA, go to Properties under the File menu.

I’m able to drag iPhone 5 footage from my hard drive to VP13 timeline. I usually have Adobe Lightroom import the footage so that I can categorize it first. The Quicktime component is 32bit and VP13 is 64bit, so see if something strange is going on. Sometimes a reboot is needed and that is when I notice Windows update had run and a reboot was pending.

  • Here is the list of items I ordered back in Feb 2011 based on the Videoguys DIY build. My recommendation is not to skimp or bargain shop on the RAM or power supply. If you need to drop to a slower CPU to get better RAM and a power supply, it will be well worth it to avoid the random lockups caused by these components when under the loads of video editing. At the time the NVidia card was the better bet for Sony Vegas, but it seems the AMD cards would be the recommendation today. I don’t think it is too common today to upgrade the CPU later on, as you found out, the mother boards don’t always support it as the technology changes rapidly. Typically you would get another mother board/CPU and possibly have to replace the RAM too. It is much easier to add RAM, disk drives, and coolers at a later date.

  • Thanks for that post. I was looking into finally getting around to learning more about the color correction process and this thread had caught my attention. Some more reading material to add to my list!

    Thanks!

  • If it were me, I would drop the water cooler and SSD to get more CPU cores. You can save those as upgrades later. The number of CPU cores will have the biggest impact for you. Have fun researching and you are off to a great start with the VideoGuys DIY builds. I have a 6 core systems based on their build from 2011. No SSD still, but I did go with a Coolmaster CPU/Chipset fan and high flow case to keep things cool. Something about water and electronics made me nervous when looking for deals that cause me to avoid the water cooler options.
