I mainly use Mc at home, but also have Avid liquid installed on the machine. Avid Liquid lets me import the VOB files directly onto an M2V timeline. I can then edit these files natively and drop burn back to DVD. Works very quickly (no rendering to get the VOB file to the timeline).

There is aplugin for Premiere that accelerates work with HDV, I believe that it is called cineform…I am unsure as to whether this would offer any benefit in AE, but it would be worth looking into.

Unfortunately one machine is dual core duo, and the other is a dual quad core. Two different machines, but both displaying the same problem. (render times are faster on the dual quad box, but the longer render times are after 4 or 5 are slowing down to about the same relationship).

Personally I prefer to have something stable and properly tested, than out the door quick.

I have been working on a few shows in the last few months on my non-approved home system (I am very close to specs (dual Xeon, Quadrofx etc), but not bought from HP or Dell etc)….I can honestly say that I have never worked on anything as stable as this. I have had some start-up issues with XP, but Avid has been flawless….I have not encounterd a single Avid related crash.

I’m fairly new to Avid…just got a Symphony Nitris at work and Media Composer soft at home. My first thought would have been to go directly to After Effects, but I see by your tutorial that I can do a lot in Avid.

PS…

I couldn’t find the alpha option for 1:1 in After Effects….it would appear that it does support alpha within the Avid app, but I can`t access it inside AE.

Also, I just read your prfile….you are a promo guy…me too. I edit tons of promos, also had my hand in a good number of Promax awards over the past few years.

I had mentionned the idea of double rendering on their part….but that was not met favourably….. I guess i will be taking more coffee breaks for the longer renders.

There is a modification that you need to do in the boot.ini file…if you do a search for 3GB boot ini you should be able to find the step by step

Could be a timing issue. Also, make sure comp is set up appropriately. I would also try adding some motion blur.

I would animate the spaceship first (forget about it animating to the words), then I would parent this to a Null and use the Null’s position properties to animate to the specific words.
