Im doing a bunch of clips for a client’s movie – There is a intro that involves a bouncing spaceship that will be the “karaoke” ball. Thats not really the issue at hand, but what is the issue is synching up the music to the ball + and my client wants the spaceship to dance and twirl etc in between words. What ive been doing has been ending up somewhat notchy due to timing. Is there a way in after effects to get some good synching of the words with the ball that im not aware of? i tried looking up other stuff but only really found karaoke tutorials without the bouncing ball. Any help would be great!
if theres anything i left out that you would like to know, ill do my best to answer your question as well!

I would animate the spaceship first (forget about it animating to the words), then I would parent this to a Null and use the Null’s position properties to animate to the specific words.

Thanks for the tip on the null! –

Is there an easier way to sync up the music to the animations? im tracing an animation that my client did on final cut a while back before he wanted someone else to do the effects. ie a way that im not aware of to scrub thru the video clip with sound for reference? from what i know of aftereffects i can only get sound on preview

You can get sound preview in AE while scrubbing the timeline if you hold down the Cmd key on Mac (Ctrl key on Win?)
That kind of sound preview is not all that good but it can help.
