Really interesting idea with those 2x 4000.

I would go even further if money and reason left a side.

Have two expanders both on separate 16x lane.
It gives you 8 slots. Have not heard about anyone testing it but in theory should work fine.

I think it really is the matter how you think.

Smoke would be your tool but pricing is different and i bet speed and some other factors also come to play.

For me it seems that resolve is so fast that you have plenty of time to do grain, vfx etc.
And multiple times in the row.

It all comes to how you think your pipeline.

It is like with red camera. Camera by itself does not make good result. You need people that make it
make good results using all other tools ing good balance like how you illuminate your set etc.
So it is more balancing your components in the exact amount to make your mix work.

So it really depends what is your objective and how you get your results.
It is like mobile phones now. You can send email by them but you do not have to like it.
Some say it is the only way to do it now days.

Two 4000 in 16 slots and gui one in third slot ?

Just drop in circle window on last node or track node. Use in / out button on circle window.
Drag curve as you like. And done.

Seems silly to make “look” in camera.

I had one project like that. Only thing was that the look was made so that only 25% of color information
was stored. All other was crushed black.

Really bad way to do it. If you have information in your file it should be simple to just reset red prefs.

Why is that ?

If you have linux version it is fast as hell doing all 3d etc 4k.

Even on mac you can add expansion box and lets say 2 to 4 gpus what makes this
“cheap” system really fast. Specially when you add full BM grading board.

It is like with fcp it used to be. You could do all you needed but the technology just cost less.
More room for creative work less for financial worry’s.

Hi.

I wonder why not edit with small proxy files from r3d as then you do not need to relink
and all falls to its place.

Third party tools are Crimson Workflow for example.
I had some tools more but i do not recall them and have not used them after
going to snow leopard as proxy makes reconnecting simpler.

I think your problem is in fcp not in davinci.

I would go with hdlink pro on sdi as you could use luts there if needed.

I also have had really good results using apple new display and showing the same spot in cinema.
Colors were perfect match.
