This is discussed at length in the current episode of The Coloristos podcast:

    https://coloristos.podomatic.com

The episode is “Displays 2” and is available for free on iTunes and on the site. My personal take is that the Dreamcolor is not up to the task, but many monitors can work provided they can be calibrated.

  • [david hare] “That simple does not work. I have read the manual and i have tried everything. watching tutorials people just double click the footage, it goes into the master folder in the media pool. they then go over to colour and the footage is visable. “

Not without a timeline it won’t. You’re missing a step.

  • Create a new timeline in the Edit mode by right-clicking in the Timeline window (upper left) and choosing “New Timeline.” Give it a name. You should now see a Video and Audio track on the main bottom area. Now you can drag or insert your media to this timeline.

All of this is covered in extreme detail in the manual.

    At 444, I’d say no.

[Sascha Haber] “Please…flashes and fades are killing me…us…everybody…

I’ve dealt with this for so long, I just accept it as a sad part of life. At least you can prune the list and get rid of the unnecessary cuts in flashes and dissolves.

I agree that being able to set a “minimum shot length” would be very handy. I’d also like to be able to select only part of a segment on a timeline in the edit window and have Scene Cut Detect just go in and slice up that specific segment and not the entire file.

Offset can work in some situations. It all depends on the nature of the initial photography and exposure. There are very few absolutes in this business.

Last time I checked, the minimum screen resolution you need is 1680×1050. Ideally, you need at least 1920×1080 for the GUI.

[lou cann] “So How can I apply the color settings to a node without it changing the existing qualifier??? “
Create a new node and copy the other qualifier to that. Don’t try to copy two qualifiers to the same node.

I don’t think Firewire is a fast enough interface for ProRes 444 HD shots, but it would depend on the drive and the computer itself. I think you’d be better off with USB3 or Thunderbolt.

In this case, try copying the files, putting the copies in a new folder, re-importing the material, and see if it sticks. And be sure the drive is set in the Media Storage Volumes preference.
