August 5, 2010 at 8:32 pm in reply to: Can’t change highlight group for button in Encore CS3Any new project I try to make gives me the same greyed out “highlight” option.
If it weren’t for the 1st project working properly… I’d say that Encore won’t let you change the group.
FYI… I tried to manually change the group from “(=1)” to “(=2)” in photoshop… but still greyed out.
Also, when the button is selected, instead of turning from yellow to red… it is yellow and then disappears.

I pasted the expression and I get this warning:
After Effects warning: class ‘layer’ has no property or method named ”
expression disabled.
I’m not sure if I’m supposed to enter a “rate” or if the expression is just supposed to work by itself?
You also said, “Follow Kevin’s instructions in the post” I don’t know what post you’re referring to?
And lastly, I couldn’t remember anything wrong with Star Trek’s credits so I popped in the Bluray to check, and I can’t see what you mean?
Thanks for your patience Dave,
Marc

July 10, 2010 at 3:45 am in reply to: Audio waveforms disappeared from clips in timelineNot sure if your problem was caused by copying/pasting some clips from one project to another. If it was, try this:
1) make sure to select the TRACK that the affected CLIP is on.
2) move the cursor over the affected CLIP.
3) hit the “M” key.
Done. Waveform and audio is back.

“But a much smarter guy than me figured out a solution. From Kevin Camp, here’s an expression for flicker-free credit rolls. Just copy the stuff in bold and paste:”
Hi Dave, I’ve been reading stuff for 2 days now about the “mercury jones” preset (which I can’t find anywhere) and expressions.
I’m still very new to AE, can you please explain to me where I’m supposed to paste the expression you posted?
I never thought it would be this difficult to make rolling titles. It takes no time at all in Premiere Pro, but obviously I’m spending a lot of time trying to learn so I can make titles that don’t flicker.
Am I supposed to use a camera with a null object to move the titles? I also tried using “autoscroll” but I can’t seem to start the titles off-screen, and it won’t show me what’s written off screen (it just keeps repeating what is actually showing on-screen). I’m assuming it has something to do with “motion tile”, but I have no clue.
Please help me. I’m so confused.
Thanks in advance,
Marc

I figured out that the exported frame with no jagged edges was produced by selecting “field render” >lower field first.
So, is this what I’m supposed to do when I have interlaced footage that I want to export?…
field render when exporting? If this is the case, I’m very surprised I haven’t read about this before as it seems like a pretty important piece of information.
Thanks,
Marc

Figured it out:
Duplicate text layer
accept shadows “only” on new text layer (mask on 3D layer)
accept shadows “off” on original text layer (mask letters here)*Phewww

Ahh ok, thanks Walter. Makes sense now.
I gave up on the “Shatterize” idea because I couldn’t get the shadows to react to the effect even when precomposed. I tried for days but I had to give up.
PROBLEM #2
Now that the title is sitting on the table top casting shadows, I created a mask for when someone walks in front of the text…
The mask works fine, but as the person moves in front of the text, there’s no shadow from the text until a piece of the letter(s) is exposed… so there’s no shadow, then BANG, the shadow pops up.
Is there a way that I can have the shadows visible when they should be, as opposed to being visible ONLY when the text is visible?
Thanks,
Marc

Thanks Walter, I’ll definitely try it… but I’m a little confused about how to make the shadows “2.5D”?
