    Thanks guys!

Tim: It is interlaced material that I’m working with… and both versions have the exact same settings except that one is mpeg2 CBR and the other is mpeg2-dvd CBR. Both interlaced… one has TERRIBLE titles. I don’t get it?

Jeff: I’m not having problems with the VBR versions (both look good). I’m just having problems with the mpeg2-dvd version of CBR… which is confusing me.

    Thanks Tim,

Yes they’re animated… But why is one CBR better than the other?

    Tell me about it!

    It was shot as interlaced.

    Thanks again Dave,

When I said “export”, I meant “render” with Render Queue (sorry for the misunderstanding).

After many tests… I realized that interpreting the footage as “lower” and then rendering as “field render: lower” Quicktime Animation gave me jagged combing effects , as opposed to interpreting as “lower” and rendering as field render: “off” (which looked amazing and smooth when viewed in Quicktime), which I find confusing.

Rendering both options (“lower” and “off”) as AVI look almost identical in windows media player. And exporting both options as mpeg2 from Premiere Pro look about the same as well (viewed through WinDVD). Which leaves me still unsure of which to choose?

    Thanks for your help,

    Marc

    Thanks for the response Dave.

I plan to export as Quicktime Animation to re-import into Premiere Pro to then re-export as mpeg2 for DVD.

I initially deinterlaced because I was under the impression (which I only recently discovered to be false) that AE deinterlaced by default.

So I figured I’d go with it, and use “Frames” on my short film to make the deinterlace look better and in the end I’d have something that looked less like video.

So, now I’d like to export a version that is interlaced like the original footage, which brings me back to my original problem, which is that when I export as interlaced… it looks bad.

To be clear: if I import my AVI, do absolutely nothing to it, and export as AVI (interlaced, lower field), I get “combing” which wasn’t there in the original video file (which is interlaced, lower field).

There has to be something I’m missing, as it seems that I should logically be able to export something that at least looks similar to what I’ve imported?

    Thanks,

    Marc

February 27, 2011 at 10:13 pm in reply to: 30p to interlaced DVD

    Thanks Angelo,

Will #2 look worse (picture quality) than #1?

Is #1 a DVD player issue, or a TV issue? How will 30p play on older TV’s that can’t play progressive video? (I don’t have any other TV’s to test it on)

Also, I don’t know if you can answer this… but why is it creating “combing” in the first place? I thought that was only something that happens when you deinterlace footage (not vice versa)? It just seems to me that if you take 2 good quality frames and interlace them together, you should still have a good picture. Confusing…

I’m still not sure which version to go with. But if I decide on the 30p version… I’ll definitely try burning at a slower speed.

    Thanks again 🙂

February 25, 2011 at 6:39 am in reply to: Can’t change highlight group for button in Encore CS3

    Sorry for the late reply…

I finally found a solution, but forgot to come back and post it here in case anyone else had the same problem.

    (1) Left-click on the menu you’re working on (in the “project” list).
    (2) Look at the “properties” on the right side.
    (3) Click on “color set” (it will be set to “automatic”) change it to “menu default”.

And VOILA! Now you have the option to change the Highlight group for any button.

    Enjoy 🙂

    Thanks Todd for the reply.

Umm, maybe I misunderstood… but I was informed that After Effects automatically deinterlaces footage when you export? So I used a plug-in to help make it better quality (less jagged lines) when I export from After Effects.

    Thanks again Jose!

If anyone else is stupid like me… and didn’t realize that the Notepad document is REALLY wide and you have to scroll to find the the end of the header… well… now you know. haha.

In Notepad, you can go to “Edit”,”Find”… and type “º”, and click “find next” until you find the end of the header (since it ends with a “º”).

I was able to find the entire header this time… but I still wasn’t able to get it to import (even after changing the version #).

Hopefully you guys have better results.

    Good luck!
